My birth name, Charmaine, derives from Latin roots, meaning ‘song’ or ‘poem,’ and these artforms have been a guiding force throughout my journey—helping me navigate life’s challenges, offering comfort and strength one verse at a time.

My musical adventure truly began in the lush tropical rainforests and caves of Far-North QLD. With an overwhelming fear of sharing my voice, I secretly wrote songs behind closed doors or deep in the jungle, and for a long time, my creative expression remained a whisper between my heart and the natural world.

But life has its way of coaxing us into vulnerability and courage, and as my journey unfolded, I realised that this part of me didn’t need to be protected, it didn’t want to be hidden, or tamed. My creative essence was made to be wild and free, to be shared, and to be a healing vessel for love, loss, celebration, and connection.

After transmuting my own creative blocks and finding ways to let my passion for music lead- I have designed programs to support other people along their musical journey through tutoring and mentoring

Engaging with children and celebrating their creative innocence is something I hold dear to my heart.

My journey as a facilitator began with the little ones—nurturing their creativity as a nanny, music tutor, and song group leader.

In the early days, A large part of my career was spent working with children and the special abilities community, supporting individuals and groups to write songs, form bands, and build creative confidence. I have directed community events, showcases and a successful theatre production as a result of celebrating the talents of the precious people I’ve been blessed to work with. This journey of enriching experience has helped me to curate creative programs and song circles for the little ones.

These Song Circles are designed to deepen our children’s connection to their inner and outer worlds through song-writing and playful exploration.

No matter what level of experience, each and every individual is gently encouraged to contribute in their own natural way. Whether it be using an instrument, singing, dancing, listening, or cheering others along, everyone has an integral role to play in a song circle .

On a beautiful sunny day at a friend’s community event, Charmaine gently gathered a small group of children together, including my girls, and created the loveliest song. She engaged the children’s imagination and senses to develop lyrics for the whole song. The words were all created by the children. One of my girls is deeply shy, takes time to warm to people but also determined to create and play in her own way until she feels safe and open. And so, with this combination of qualities, it was so moving to see the way that Charmaine had engaged her and sustained her focus. Charmaine had such a unique way of working with her, especially at times where the children needed guidance to stay engaged, she had a clear but tender way of keeping them ‘on track’. The children really bloomed with her as she was able to bring out a quiet comfort in them, both the shy and the boysterous ones! And in the end, they performed the song in front of everyone. It was a dream.

When Charmaine lived in our community at Machans Beach, she facilitated a music/gardening group at the local school where she guided the children to make songs about how to care for the Earth while revamping the community garden.

After a short while they planted a new seed and from that grew a band they called The Green Thumbs. It was so great to witness how the children supported and encouraged each other along the way with Charmaine’s guidance.

She provided a safe and nurturing space for my young daughters to be themselves and to learn and grow in the process of having fun.
